James Thomas Foster, son of Robert and Susan Jones Foster was born at the Old Foster Homestead, near Browns Valley, Indiana July 17, 1844. Died at his home near Waveland, Feb 14, 1926, aged 81 years, 6 months and 27 days. Thomas Foster was a member of a family of 8 children; all deceased except one brother, Robert of Imperial City, Cal. He was twice married, early in life to Hannah Davis and of this union were born three sons. His wife, Hannah Foster died July 24, 1892. In 1895 he married Susan Denman. The result of this marriage were two children: One son, Robert M. Foster being deceased. He leaves to the world as his tribute to the eternal purpose of life three sons, one daughter and one stepson, namely, John H. Foster and Charles S. Foster of Brownsvalley; Henry Lee Foster of Waveland; Mrs. Jemima Booher of Crawfordsville; and Jefferson Davis of Brownsvalley. Also two grandsons and four great grandchildren. In the business world, Thomas Foster was acclaimed by his business associates as honest and altruistic. In his home and among his friends neighbors he was kind and generous giving much and expecting little. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Brownsvalley. Funeral services were held at the Freedom Church on Tues afternoon, Rev. J.B. Johnson in charge. Burial at Indian Creek cem. Those present from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Melvin of Advance; George Foster and two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Spurrier and Mrs. Belle Loebick of Lafayette and Judge Jere West of Crawfordsville.  -- transcribed by kbz

Waveland, February 15 - James Thomas Foster, 82, prominent farmer of the county, died at 11 o'clock Sunday night at his home near here. He had been ill for sevearl months with liver trouble.

Mr. Foster was born on July 17, 1844, in Brown Township, where he spent his entire life. He was the son of Robert and Susan Foster. In 1866 he was married to Hannah E. Davis who died in July 1892. To this union were born three sons: John H; Charles S. of Brown's Valley and Dr. Robert M. Foster who died in December 1919. On April 13. 1895 he was married to Susan M. Denman and to this union were born two children, Mrs. Mim Booher of Crawfordsville and Lee Foster, at home. He was a member of the Russellville Masonic Lodge since he was 21 years of age, and was also a member of the Crawfordsville Chapter and Greencastle Commandery. A member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Brown's Valley Mr. Foster was widely known as a progressive farmer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Freedom Church with burial at Indian Creek Cemetery. He is survived by his wife and two sons by the first marriage, Charles S. and John H of Brown's Valley and two children by the last marriage, Mrs. Mima Boohe rof this city and Lee at home. One stepson, Jeff Davis of Brown's Valley one brother, Robert C. Foster of Imperial, California, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive the deceased  -- transcribed by kbz
